Raising Charitable Children
I had the pleasure of listening to nationally know speaker / author Carol Weisman. Carol discussed a few ways to inspire youth to develop a charitable mindset. You will want to consider reading her Carol's Book if you grow tired of hearing your kids, grandkids, etc complain about what they don't have.

Taking my Basketball Team to an NBA Game
This is what is left of the varsity and junior varsity basketball team at Lake Station High School.
We are on our way to see the Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings play at the United Center.
I was able to secure a meeting for my players to meet Brad, and a few other players, after the game .
Nephew and Uncle on the Basketball Court
Brad flew home for the NBA All-Star break to visit friends and family.
This is the basketball court that has been the site for several grudge matches between family members.
I am undefeated on my, "Home Court" against my two nephews Brad and Cory. Now I haven't played them in 14 years but I don't think that would make a difference. :)
This is Brad on the Jumbo Tron before the Bulls/Kings game this week.
Katrina Family
This is the family from New Orleans that my family has been helping after they lost their house during hurricane Katrina . Brad has been the major contributor financially. My brother Phil has helped to get things done and moving forward.
They are great people and have a powerful story to tell. You can read the latest article about their experience here. Read the article.

Speaking and Road Trip with my son Tommy
On my recent speaking trip, I took my oldest son. He had a chance to see and participate in what dad does for a living. The experience was priceless for both of us. Click on the link below to view photos from our trip.

Peter Jennings Death
I will miss Peter Jennings on ABC. His death was too early but at least he left a great legacy. The reports on his life, have made me feel a little ashamed on how I take my American citizenship for granted. I live in a great country and have made a goal to learn more about the privileges I enjoy as an American citizen.

Speaking at the Revie Sorey Football Camp

Speaking at the NEXT Financial Conference in Houston, Texas
I traveled down to Houston to speak at the NEXT Financial national conference. I speak to financial planners on subjects that relate to "Life Planning" for clients. Life planning is getting more press because clients want more than a financial plan from their advisors. It is a cultural change that I am shepherding nationwide.
Here I am with a one of the founders of NEXT, Jim Lorence and financial advisor Hal Thomlinson from Colorado.
In the Houston Airport waiting for my flight back to Chicago.

Lake Station HS Awards Ceremony
Here I am with the senior basketball players I helped to coach this year.
Desi, Neal and Nate.
I give these three men credit for sticking with the team despite winning only two games, in three years. They are winners in my book!

Speaking at Hancock County KY, High School
I love speaking at small schools! It reminds me of my little high school where I was one of 55 seniors.
Here is one of the students demonstrating his,"Napoleon Dynamite" skit.
Here is a basketball player demonstrating the proper position for, "taking the charge."
Here I am demonstrating my popular, "Bread Basket", story.
Shooting the game winning free throw. I made it!

Speaking at the National Consortium for Sports and Society
I was down in Orlando to speak on what an athlete should consider after his or her playing career is over. It was nice to have a break from the cold weather in Chicagoland.
Here I am with one of the other speakers; film maker Spike Lee.
Spike spoke about his good friend the late Ralph Wiley of ESPN.
This is the first picture that cut my head off.
Here is the founder of NCAS Richard Lapchick. Richard is an advocate for racial, ethnic and gender equality in sports. You should hear his story sometime.

Play It Smart Chicago Advisory Meeting
I have been fortunate to be part of great program here in Chicago. The program is called "Play it Smart" and it is funded by a grant from the National Football Foundation and the US Department of Education.
The program is set up for a academic coach to be in the school for minimum of 20 hours per week during the school year. The academic coach's job is to help the students on the football team, excel in the classroom, and in the community. I will expand more on this great program in a future feature article.
Check out the website here: http://playitsmart.footballfoundation.com

Speaking in Bracken County
I spoke with the athletes at Bracken County High School in Kentucky. Athletic Director and basketball coach, Robert Hammonds, really has a nice operation in place. I love these small schools. They remind me of my high school of 240 students grades 9-12.
