Speaking at the National Consortium for Sports and Society

I was down in Orlando to speak on what an athlete should consider after his or her playing career is over. It was nice to have a break from the cold weather in Chicagoland.

Here I am with one of the other speakers; film maker Spike Lee.
Spike spoke about his good friend the late Ralph Wiley of ESPN.

This is the first picture that cut my head off.

Here is the founder of NCAS Richard Lapchick. Richard is an advocate for racial, ethnic and gender equality in sports. You should hear his story sometime.

Play It Smart Chicago Advisory Meeting

I have been fortunate to be part of great program here in Chicago. The program is called "Play it Smart" and it is funded by a grant from the National Football Foundation and the US Department of Education.

The program is set up for a academic coach to be in the school for minimum of 20 hours per week during the school year. The academic coach's job is to help the students on the football team, excel in the classroom, and in the community. I will expand more on this great program in a future feature article.

Speaking in Bracken County

I spoke with the athletes at Bracken County High School in Kentucky. Athletic Director and basketball coach, Robert Hammonds, really has a nice operation in place. I love these small schools. They remind me of my high school of 240 students grades 9-12.
